Cabin Comforts: Turning Your Stateroom into a Sanctuary

Your cabin is your home away from home on the ship, and a few clever additions can make it extra cozy:

  • Sticky Notes: These little lifesavers are perfect for leaving messages for your travel buddies, marking pages in your cruise planner, or even sticking reminders on the mirror. When we cruise with our kids, we give them a template of what information to write on their sticky notes when they leave their stateroom. On their note, they must include when they are leaving, where they will be, who is going with them and what time they will be back. We also leave notes for them so they can find us at anytime.
  • Binder Clips: Tame those pesky cables, keep snack bags closed, or even clip curtains together for a darker room – binder clips are surprisingly versatile! We use them to hang up towels or notes up, or even as a bookmark while at the pool.
  • Highlighters: Planning your daily activities? Highlight the must-do excursions, dining reservations, and onboard events in your cruise program. Most cruise programs can be found on the Cruise line app, but sometimes it can be hard to access on the ship. Always ask for a paper program, that way you can make notes, highlight the things you want to do, and easily post it in your room or take it with you!
  • Lanyards: Keep your cruise card (your key to everything!) easily accessible with a lanyard. No more frantic searching through your bag! Amazon makes cute lanyards specifically for cruises, making it something festive that your kids will want to wear. Remember, your cruise card is what you will use to get on and off the ship at ports, and without it you may have a very difficult time getting back on the ship.
  • Magnetic Hooks: Maximize your storage space! These are perfect for hanging hats, scarves, lanyards, or even your swimsuit to dry. The walls of a cruise ship stateroom are magnetic, so you can hang these little buddies anywhere! We use them to hang up our towels, hats, coats or anything we don’t want laying on the floor.
  • Ziploc Bags: From protecting your phone at the pool to organizing snacks and toiletries, Ziploc bags are a cruise essential. Need a snack but don’t want to leave your room? Take Ziploc bags to the buffet at meal time and bring some snacks back for later for those late night cravings.
  • Door Magnets: A fun way to personalize your cabin door and let your personality shine! Plus, it helps you easily identify your room among the sea of identical doors. You can get cruise, birthday or holiday magnets to make your cruise a bit more special.
  • Rubber Ducks: Join the fun and hide rubber ducks around the ship for other cruisers to find! It’s a hilarious and engaging way to connect with fellow passengers. Our kids would leave their room just to take a long walk and look for ducks. We found them in all shapes and sizes, and the kids had an absolute blast hunting for ducks and rehiding them!

Tech & Travel Essentials: Staying Connected and Comfortable

Staying connected and comfortable on a cruise can make your trip even more enjoyable. From capturing stunning sunset photos to staying in touch with loved ones back home, and even just relaxing with your favorite playlist or podcast, your tech and travel essentials play a key role in shaping your overall experience. This section covers the must-have gadgets and accessories to ensure you’re powered up, entertained, and ready for anything the high seas throw your way – from unexpected port changes to those long, lazy afternoons by the pool. We’ll also touch on some clever packing tips to keep everything organized and easily accessible in your cabin.

  • European Chargers: Most ships have regular plugs and European plugs. If you need extra outlets, get a couple of European adapters to give you more access to your devices or electric items.
  • Noise-Cancelling Headphones or Earbuds: Escape the hustle and bustle of the ship and relax with your favorite tunes or podcasts. Perfect for poolside lounging or quiet time in your cabin. It can get very loud on the pool deck, and noise-cancelling headphones can help you relax a little easier. We also had some very noisy neighbors on our last cruise, and noise-cancelling headphones would have made sleeping a lot easier!
  • Stainless Steel Water Bottle: Stay hydrated and eco-friendly by bringing your own reusable water bottle. Refill it at water stations and save money on bottled water. Cruise lines will sell packs of water on the ship, but you will pay a hefty price. The water on a cruise ship is filtered and purified, and perfect to put in a refillable water bottle (just make sure it is empty going through airport and cruise port security!).
  • Travel Fan: Some cabins can get a little stuffy. A small travel fan can make a world of difference, especially in warmer climates. The white noise from a fan can also help filter out any unwanted outside noise.
  • Bluetooth Speaker: Set the mood in your cabin or on your balcony with your favorite tunes. Take it down to the pool deck to relax to your favorite music or podcast. Just be courteous to those around you and keep the volume down!
  • Travel Coffee Mug: Enjoy your morning coffee on the go, whether you’re exploring the ship or heading out on an excursion. Other than Starbucks, there are no disposable coffee mugs on the ship, so having a travel mug makes it easier for coffee lovers to take their beans to go!

On-Shore Adventures: Gear Up for Exploration

Exploring new destinations is a huge part of the fun of cruising! From ancient ruins and bustling marketplaces to pristine beaches and lush rainforests, each port of call offers unique opportunities for adventure and discovery. But being prepared for your on-shore excursions can make all the difference between a smooth and memorable experience, and a day filled with stress or unexpected hiccups. This section covers essential gear and practical tips for maximizing your time on land, ensuring you’re comfortable, protected from the elements, and ready to discover all the hidden gems your cruise itinerary has to offer – whether you’re planning a guided tour or venturing out on your own. We’ll also touch on some important safety considerations to keep in mind while exploring unfamiliar territory.

  • Backpack: A comfortable backpack is essential for carrying your belongings during shore excursions. Pack it with sunscreen, a hat, a water bottle, and any souvenirs you pick up along the way. Choose a backpack that is waterproof in case it rains or gets wet while swimming.
  • Towel Bands:Maximize your poolside relaxation with towel bands. These handy accessories keep your towel in place, so you can focus on soaking up the sun, not chasing after your towel.
  • Travel Umbrella: Don’t let a little rain dampen your cruise fun! Pack a compact travel umbrella to stay dry while walking around the ship or exploring ports, especially in tropical destinations.

Grooming and Garment Care

Looking your best on vacation doesn’t have to be a chore. Even on a cruise, where relaxation is key, a little attention to grooming and garment care can go a long way in boosting your confidence and making you feel more put-together. After all, you’ll be taking photos, enjoying special dinners, and meeting new people, so it’s natural to want to look and feel your best. This section covers essential grooming tools and garment care tips to help you maintain a polished appearance throughout your cruise, without taking up precious vacation time. We’ll explore space-saving solutions for packing your grooming essentials, quick fixes for clothing mishaps, and easy ways to keep your outfits looking fresh and wrinkle-free, even after being packed in a suitcase. From stain removal tricks to wrinkle-releasing hacks, we’ve got you covered so you can focus on enjoying your cruise, not worrying about your wardrobe.

  • Lint Brush: Keep your clothes looking fresh and free of lint, especially if you’re packing darker colors. Last time we traveled, I pulled my formal outfit out of my suitcase and it was covered in lint and fuzz! Having a lint brush was a lifesaver!
  • Tide Pens: Accidents happen! Tide pens are a lifesaver for quickly removing stains on the go. It is also very pricey to get clothes sent out and laundered on a cruise, so having a tide pen for little stains will save you some money!
  • Wrinkle Releaser: Keep your clothes looking crisp and wrinkle-free without having to iron. There are no irons in the state rooms on cruises, and to have clothes pressed is really expensive. Clothes can easily get wrinkled while in a suitcase, so throwing in some wrinkle releaser will help smooth your clothes out.
  • Travel Steamer: For more stubborn wrinkles, a small travel steamer can be a game-changer. Stick it in your suitcase and you will be able to get the wrinkles out of anything!

Bonus Tip: Don’t overpack! Cruise cabins can be cozy, and you’ll likely be doing laundry onboard. Focus on versatile pieces that can be mixed and matched.

So, there you have it – my tried-and-true packing list for a fantastic cruise adventure! With these essentials in your suitcase, you’ll be well-prepared to make the most of your trip.
